Dr. Sadik Kassim is the Deputy Director General for Agricultural Technology Promotion at the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Uganda. He holds a PhD in Plant Biotechnology and has over two decades of experience in agricultural research, innovation management, and technology transfer.

Dr. Kassim’s leadership is anchored in bridging the gap between scientific discovery and farmer adoption, ensuring that research outputs translate into tangible benefits for communities. At NARO, he oversees national strategies for technology promotion, knowledge dissemination, and private-sector engagement, fostering innovation-driven agricultural transformation. His work emphasizes value-chain strengthening, agro-industrialization, and capacity building — all central to achieving food security and resilience.

In alignment with the theme of the 13th IWCSPP, Dr. Kassim advocates for integrated research and technology systems that minimize postharvest losses and enhance stored product protection. Through his guidance, NARO continues to scale up storage innovations, pest management technologies, and digital platforms that improve food quality and reduce waste along the production-to-consumption continuum.

Before his current role, Dr. Kassim served as Director of Research and has been instrumental in advancing biotechnology and biosafety frameworks in Uganda. He is widely recognized for his contributions to policy formulation, technology commercialization, and regional partnerships that strengthen agricultural innovation systems in Africa.

Dr. Kassim is passionate about empowering farmers, youth, and agripreneurs with evidence-based technologies to drive sustainable agricultural intensification and postharvest value retention—key pillars in ensuring long-term food and nutrition security.
